Local to the Northern Lights College in Fort St. John, a new field operator program prepares students for a career in the hydrocarbon industry. Northern Lights College (NLC), in partnership with Tourmaline, Canada’s largest natural gas producer, developed this pilot program to prepare workers for the in-demand and well-paying jobs of the hydrocarbon industry. The pilot program is being offered through the NLC Continuing Education department.
SSI staff Skylar Carberry, James Ross, and Brandon Beck spent an afternoon with the field operator students in the classroom and on site at the NLC campus. The subject of discussion and demonstration was production optimization. The group studied different artificial lift types, and got their hands on some different Acoustic Well Sounder technologies. Beyond the classroom, Northern Lights College has an impressive assortment of donated oilfield equipment. The group spent time at NLC’s pumpjack learning Dynamometer Analysis. Ten students from local British Columbia and Alberta communities also explored the value these tools provide to identify bottle necks, wellbore needs, and maximizing profits.
Surface Solutions has had much positive reception and activity in NEBC since establishing a branch in 2018. We are thrilled to support the next generation of students and workers going through the program. There is a wealth of knowledge shared in the classroom and on campus. The field operations specialist program will greatly benefit the industry and provide people with a beneficial career in the oil and gas industry.
